Leather Cleaners
Since leather cleaning is a specialty not found in every city, most neighborhood dry cleaners send their customers' garments to professional leather cleaners who work on behalf of hundreds of dry cleaners across several states. After using the following system, you should be able to either drop off your garment at a local cleaner, knowing it's going to the professional you've selected, or you may be able to go directly to the leather cleaning plant.
All cleaners listed are members of the Leather Apparel Association, companies who have distinguished themselves by their commitments to quality, customer satisfaction and industry support.
What you should know about cleaning
Professional leather cleaning is recommended for all leathers, and fabric garments trimmed with leather. Normal dry cleaning methods will not yield proper results. Clean matching garments at the same time, since a slight variation is color or texture may occur as a natural result of the cleaning process. Natural marks and wrinkles could become more apparent after cleaning. Garment may shrink slightly, but will stretch again with wear. Professionally applied water and stain repellent products are often available.
Basic leather care at home
Although professional leather cleaning is recommended for leather, there are basic home care products that consumers can purchase for very simple home remedies. See our "Leather Care Tips" section for simple care tips and fixes or use the "Find Your Cleaner" to locate an LAA approved professional in your area for yearly cleaning or more complex problems with your garments.
What you should do
- Call one or more of the leather cleaners listed below and tell them the Leather Apparel Association referred you.
- Discuss your needs and determine which of your neighborhood dry cleaners they work with, if any.
- Make an educated decision as to which you will work with. The garment may then be dropped off at a local dry cleaner that will send it to the reputable leather cleaner selected. Or, if possible, ship the garment directly to the leather cleaning plant.
